MSU Football Overhyped, Again

(15) Michigan St 13

Personally I feel bad for all Michigan State fans. Each year they are ranked too high in all the polls, and either tank halfway through the year or prove they shouldn't be ranked that high because they get annihilated in a bowl game (Roll Tide). The term "meaningful game" hasn't been defined well by the Spartans' play in recent years. For a team that hasn't won a bowl game since 2001 against the David Carr (yeah that long ago) led Fresno State team, State fans sure do talk a LOT of smack, but why?

I'm sorry, but there is a certain cockiness some State fans possess about them which I cannot handle. Whether or not you like it, a college football team's success is heavily dependent on the outcome of the bowl game (if they make it). So stop with the nonsense about how good State football has been if they indeed haven't been "successful" in 10 years. Sure rivalries carry bragging rights, but unless your school has a BIG TIME RIVALRY like Michigan or Ohio State then your season is graded on the bowl game or lack thereof. Sorry, but Notre Dame vs. MSU is not a big rivalry, and U of M has bigger fish to fry with OSU instead of worrying about MSU.

I just ask for State fans to have realistic expectations for their team like all Lions fans do. And when you start having more success, then you can talk as much smack as you want because I have no problem with that once there is a reason for it. But for now State fans, realize that your team is probably not going to be "successful" this year, or is beating Florida Atlantic University at home 44-0 gonna constitute a successful year in East Lansing? The truth hurts, and that's my two cents.
