The catch he made last night on the eventual game winning drive by the Giants was spectacular (Eli's pass was exceptional as well). I hear people are comparing it to David Tyree's catch in the previous Patriots vs. Giants Super Bowl which seemed like a piece of gum was stuck to Tyree's helmet when he pinned it against his head. I definitely think Manningham's catch last night was more clutch. I'll tell you why...
First off Manningham caught that ball with two defenders lurking within inches of him. Even though Rodney Harrison was on Tyree like white on rice, he was the only player defending Tyree. The other huge factor I think of when making a clutch catch is the difficulty of the catch. Manningham was literally a foot away from the sideline when he caught the ball, AND he got both of his feet in bounds which was amazing. Tyree was in the middle of the field (child's play) when he caught the ball. Both were clutch catches nonetheless, but I think Manningham had a higher degree of difficulty.
However, I still like this catch from Manningham back in his maize and blue days more than the one from last night. Reminisce for a second if you forgot about this gem...
