"Moneypuck" Seems Right If The Wings Make History

After watching Moneyball for the first time over the weekend, maybe the Wings get a movie if they can get a victory over the Dallas Stars tomorrow night which would set the NHL record of consecutive home wins at 21 straight. The Oakland Athletics won 20 straight in the 2002 season essentially coming out of the woodwork. While the movie was more about the strategy and management decisions to create the team, the 20 game win streak was definitely a major point in the movie...

If the Wings can pull out 21 straight wins at the Joe tomorrow night against Dallas, the movie title Moneypuck may start to float around Hollywood. Besides when is the last time a hockey movie has been made? Miracle? That's been too long.

Illitch has assembled this team with wise contracts and a laid-back approach to running this organization, my opinion of why the Wings have been dominant for the past 20 years. Let's not forget this team has won their last three games at home without starting tender Jimmy Howard. There have also been a number of distractions regarding the 2013 Winter Classic announcement, but the Wings are focused on the task at hand, winning the Central and getting the #1 seed in the Western Conference. Babcock recently said how they didn't pay any attention to the win streak until last night when they sent the Flyers home with a 4-3 victory, tying the NHL record of 20 straight home wins with the 1929-30 Bruins and 1975-76 Flyers.

A win tomorrow night at home would put the Red Wings in elite company. Not only would they set the record for most consecutive wins at home in the NHL, but they would trail only the 1916 Giants and 1995-96 Bulls for the longest home win streak in all of professional sports. Impressive.

Throw your Wings up Detroit.
