In the past month, there have been three mixtapes which are the soundtrack to my summer; XV - "Popular Culture", Yonas - "The Transition", Childish Gambino - "Royalty". Each of these mixtapes features songs which appeal to all walks of life in terms of music enthusiasts. Of the three artists, Childish Gambino is the most well-known, but XV and Yonas have certainly increased their popularity among hip-hop fans. I guarantee you will enjoy nearly every song from each mixtape as they are all straight fire. Beef up that music library of yours and add these mixtapes to your collection.
"Dreamchasers 2" by Meek Mill was a phenomenal mixtape don't get me wrong, but something about this trio of tapes varies from the stereotypical "trunk music" put out by the majority of rap artists. XV, Yonas, and Childish Gambino breath new life into an industry which is complacent with artists repeatedly spitting verses about money, drugs, and girls. Not these three, they are inspiring, motivating, and unique. Ok, that's enough, but you get the point. Fans of hip-hop and rap need to step outside the boundaries and listen to something new for a change instead of blasting that same annoying bass line featured in 75% of the songs they listen to. Give this trio a shot.
